SCHOLLE CORPORATION'S HISTORY
Scholle Corporation was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA, in 1947 by William R. Scholle as a chemical company specializing in nitrocellulose-based products. In 1955, while searching for a better way to package sulfuric acid for dry charge batteries, Mr. Scholle invented the concept of bag-in-box packaging.
In time, bag-in-box packaging and filling equipment for liquids became Scholle's primary focus. Applications for bag-in-box range from dairy products to wine, from processed tomatoes to cleaning chemicals, and from soft drink syrup to ketchup just to name a few.
Eventually, as large multi-national companies embraced the technology, Scholle Corporation expanded globally to meet their needs. Scholle's numerous firsts in the packaging industry earned W.R. Scholle many honors. In 1977, he received the AIMCAL Man-of-the-Year award for his development of metallized polyester in the field of liquid packaging. In 1991, he was inducted into the Packaging Education Foundation's Hall of Fame.
